because we are three white girls called Mélanie, Clodie and Chloé, and three black boys named Alexander, Thomas and Tristan. The project centers on our imagination, efficiency, carefulness and
good relationship. We will speak about different topics in our blog as cinema, books, music or Arts... There are two other blogs in our class, and we try to be the most creative,

This film, directed by Mike Newel, speaks about a teacher who goes to Wellesley to teach to many girls the history of the
arts. In fact, the teacher wants to change mentalities, because it had ckepttoo many values and traditions like wedding ..
We think "Mona Lisa Smile" "is a very good
film. The main idea, the conditions of women in the fifties is really interesting. Then, we can't help but appreciate the interest of art in the film. We think scenes are sometimes a little
boring because there is no action or advance in the plot, but it's fairly tolerable.
We like also this film because there are different characters (pupils and teachers), so, everybody can be
interested to one of them. The performance of Julia Roberts in the film is outstanding. This character, Katherine, is a model for the young girls in the university. Maggie Gyllenhaal
(Giselle) is certainly the best actress in the film. It's impressive as she is very calm and level-headed whereas she is compared throughout the film to
a prostitute.
This actress is totally different and better than in the "Dark Knight". It's
the same thing for Julia Roberts in "Pretty woman",she embodies a prostitute, but here, she wants to bring about some change in the women's
conditions. It's a big contrast ! We think Kirsten Dunst is good actress in "Mona Lisa Smile" as in "Spider-Man 3".

In
Mona Lisa smile, Education is an important topic, especially university. Indeed, the teacher, embodied by Julia Robert is a woman who wants to change
mentalities with the Art
in her class. Moreover, the school is only for girls. In the film, we perceive subjects that girls study in the university of Wellesley. For example, the good manners or the History of
the Arts. The university is the place the more important in the
film.
It's the same thing in reality : the university in the 50s began to become mixed. Pupils must wear uniforms. Girls, in university, can study history of the Arts, good manners, literature
and often, French literature, the piano or how girls will breed their children and be a great housewife. For the boys, the sport principally the football, the aeronautic, sciences ..
Furthermore, in university, there are days reserved for the future orientation. There is also, team of football, cheering by some girls called cheerleaders. Finally, students have a prom ball at
the end of the year where they dance to rock music, waltz
music..

In "Mona Lisa Smile", there is a remarkable painting by Jackson Pollock but many students are shocked because some of them think abstract
art isn't really Art.
Jackson Pollock was
born on 28th January 1912 and died on 11th August 1956 in an automobile
crash. When he was young, he lived in Arizona and California in the United States. Firstly, he learnt Arts in Los Angeles, and then in New York. He became famous in the 40's and 50's, for his
abstract art.
In "Mona Lisa Smile" we can see one of his paintings : Number 1, Lavender Mist (1950)
In this
painting, there aren't any concret forms : all the beauty, the aesthetic is create by contrasts between the colors, the different lines and points, and the arrangement of both. Generally, I like
this painter for his creativity and his imagination, but for me this painting is too fraught. My favourite are these ones :
Number7, Jackson Pollock
(1951) The
Deep, Jackson Pollock (1953)
All the paintings of Pollock are very original and singular
because he was very talented. "Number 7" is really splendide, even if it's abstract, we can see a woman face, but she haven't got a body. The right and the left of the painting are incongruous. In my opinion, this is a disturbing painting but it's wonderful. "The Deep" is the last painting of the artist
and I think it's very beautiful : I like the work make with the white. The painter has called one of his painting "Black & White", the same name as our blog.

White, Jackson Pollock (1948)

The style of the fifties is inimitable: jukeboxes and rock 'n' roll,
geometrical motives for the wall papers.
Daniel Hechter, is the inventor of the "Babette" style, the fitted coat and these typical soutane
coats.
Pierre Cardin is the first one to attack the ready-to-wear clothing. He will be followed by Yves
Saint-Laurent. We owe him the revival of the blazer, the trench coat, the cardigan, the pleated skirt and the tuxedo for the women.
1951: Publicity for parfumes Guerlain.
1953: Yves Saint-Laurent enters to Dior and becomes the stylist of the house in 1957 and creates the trapeze
line and the "A" line in 1959
Dior created a new style for women, because these last ones want more femininity. Lines become more ample,
size becomes skinny, shoulders are small, and hips are marked.
I think that this fashion becomes today.
The evolution of the dresses and skirts at the level of the length.
The tuxedo of women.
